Rahul Saini, Director of Microsystems & Biosystems at Zyvex Labs and Founding member of Teliatry Inc., has won the prestigious Technology Inventor Award at the 2018 Tech Titans Gala. Rahul was cited for his role as the system architect of the most complicated and advanced implant ever made to restore vision for blind patients with retinitis pigmentosa and advanced macular degeneration. He has multiple patents awarded/pending for this wireless, batteryless implant that is the size of a grain of rice. He also has developed a neuromodulation implant for Vagus Nerve Stimulation that has led to another Zyvex spin out company – Teliatry Inc. – that is producing these implants to be used by the Texas Biomedical Device Center at the University of Texas at Dallas for multiple early feasibility study human trials. The implant is the key component of the targeted plasticity therapy that will be used to treat, in separate human trials: Spinal Cord Injury, Multiple Sclerosis, Tinnitus, Post-Traumatic Stress Syndrome, and Stroke. John Randall, President of Zyvex Labs, has said on multiple occasions: “I wish I was half as good an engineer as Rahul Saini.”
