DIT, DIT, DIT, DAT, DAT, This just in, according to RRS (Randall Rumor Service), the Major news stories of 1989 : Wave of Democracy sweeps eastern Europe, Earthquakes in California, and Ian Jefferson Randall sleeps through the night. Wow, what a year!
THE BIG NEWS:
October 20, 1989 was the birth date of Ian Jefferson Randall. Ian was delivered "Naturally" (by this we mean both parents survived the ordeal without medication) at 10:35PM, weighed in at 3.35 KiloGrams (7 lbs 6 oz), was 51 cm (20 inches) long, and came equipped with male plumbing.
UNABASHED BABY BRAGGING:
He is awfully cute, cuddly, and strong (rolling over at 2-1/2 weeks). He is smiling at us, has named many objects "AH-GUH", has porked up to almost 12 lbs., and is sleeping for 7-9 hours at night. He leans a bit more towards the Randall side in looks (unlike Ashley and Patrice, he actually has earlobes).
EVERYTHING ACCORDING TO PLAN:
John had it all planned from the start, one of each type of munchkin. He and Patrice are now assured of the anxiety of a first date from both perspectives. Our conception secrets include the book "How to Choose the Sex of Your Baby" by L. B. Shettles M.D. (Doubleday 1984).
THE ASHLEY ARTICLES:
Ashley has continued her Gymnastics classes and has taken up art. Her favorite subjects are our house and family. Ashley blatantly brags about her baby brother and has been a big help in fetching diapers in emergency situations. Ashley was a bit disappointed when we did not name her brother "WATERMELON-HEAD BUMBLE-BEE RANDALL".
JOHN'S 30th ANNIVERSARY JUDO LESSON:
August 10th of this year marked three decades in Judo for John. His first lesson was given by a young Jimmy Wooley. An older Dr. James Ralph Wooley, Pan-American Champion, two-time Olympian, and international humanitarian (having boosted the confidence of eastern-bloc types), flew in from California for a celebration work-out. John had such a good time that it took him two months to recuperate.
TALES OF PATRICE:
Patrice spent most of 89 preparing for the arrival of Ian, and the remainder of it feeding him. With slave labor provided by John, the downstairs office became Ian's room. Patrice saw to it that Ian would have new walls, new blinds, and a newly decorated crib with a Patrice original Baby cover featuring a biblical scene of many animals including smiling rhinoceri.
THE CALL OF BROADWAY:
John and neighbor Karen Sheriff co-authored a play: "Mary Mason and the Case of the Lying Witness". A production of the work was performed by the Richardson Children's Theater. Rave reviews were heard from friends, neighbors, and parents whose offspring had large parts in the play.
THE RELATIVITY REPORT: The Randall Follies
John's Parents: With her usual craft and cleverness, Vee pulled off a 70th Birthday party "Roast" of Bill. Attempts to embarrass the old geezer met with predictable failure, but a grand time was had by all. Vee was here for a much appreciated week to help with Ian. Sister Cindy: The Finch Funny Bunch (Cindy, Bob, Shelly, Sunnye, Brett & ...) added one to their roll; Kelsie was born in February. Gym USA, their Gymnastics Academy, is still going strong. Brother Mike: is making a living the old fashion way: collecting money. Vicki is a store manager, and they are both GAGA over their baby Kalli who has just turned one.
The Stepchinski Story: Patrice's Parents: Eddie and Anita moved into their new house this spring. Eddie and Anita came up to Richardson for a week to marvel at their grandson and help us out. Brother Patrick: Well ladies you blew it, Erica put an end to Pat's batchelor life. They were wed in a beautiful ceremony in Baytown this spring. Brother Nigel: Nigel and Rhonda are both still on the Houston Police Force and enjoying the DINK life (Double Income No Kids). Rhonda, we are happy to say, got out of Jail.
WHAT'S COOKIN AT TEXAS INSTRUMENTS:
TI finally found a way to keep John out of trouble; they bought an expensive toy which makes things so small that no one can see them (E-Beam lithography machine) and tied John to it. John loves it. Elaine Pijan and Deanna Smith actually do John's work while he is fiddling around with his toy.
YALL COME VISIT:
We have had visitors during 1989: The Leibs, Jim Wooley, Larry Taff, the Drs. Geis, and assorted relatives, but not nearly enough to keep us happy. Give us a call. We have plenty of floor space.
