The 2007 Randall's Christmas Newsletter

Greetings once again from that group known as the Randall's of Richardson. 2007 has brought significant changes to all of the Randalls. Ashley has graduated from college, Ian has been accepted into at least one college, Patrice has decided that flying is OK (at least if the destination is Hawaii), and John now works for a new company (at least in name).

Ashley now a Texas Ex: !

After four and a half years of hard work, two different universities, two changes in major, five changes of residence, and much encouragement from her parents and support from a steadfast group of friends, Ashley graduated with a degree in French from the University of Texas at Austin this December. We have pictures to prove it.
Somewhere along the line she managed to end a relationdhip, and is now sampling different tastes on the man buffet. What's next for Ashley and her semi-domesticated flesh-shredding feline? Ashley is currently considering her options. She has narrowed it down to something in the range of teaching English in Thailand to running a large pharmaceutical company.

Ian is a senior at Plano East Senior High School, is 18 years old, and is an inch taller than and considerably stronger than his dad. John made the mistake of getting him a membership at 24 hour fitness which is now Ian's principal place of residence. When he is not working out, going to school, chilling with his buds, working part time at Zyvex, working on art projects, or projecting plastic coated spheroids of paint at pseudo assailants, Ian has managed to grow into a son that his parents are willing to admit to raising. He is currently considering his options in terms of a college to party at and maybe take a few classes. So far he has applied to UT Austin, Texas Tech, and the University of North Texas. Ian has already been accepted at UNT.

Patrice almost finished with new house:
Two and a half years after the basic structure was more or less completed, Patrice is still working hard on getting the house looking like she wants it to. She has completed most of the landscaping (John provided bad advice and cheap manual labor), most of the drapes (Patrice limits John's activities to hanging the drapes that she has constructed), and most of the furnishing (if she can just get John to finish her office furniture). Patrice managed to break her foot while power walking Max (our 12 year old puppy) around the neighborhood. Her tootsie is all better now.

Patrice and Max have also been defending our pool from errant waterfowl (ducks) that seem to like to drop in for the occasional afternoon swim. While they add a certain ambiance, they also add duck poop. The Home Depot guys swore that the Owl statues would scare them away. Patrice placed the plastic preditor productions poolside and waited to see if they worked. In 15 minutes they ATTRACTED four ducks.

John's company changes:
John worked for Zyvex Corporation since 2001, but no more. On April fool's day, 2007, Zyvex Corp ceased to exist and in its place four companies emerged, Zyvex Instruments, Zyvex Performance Materials, Zyvex Asia, and Zyvex Labs. John now works for Zyvex Labs. He is the Vice President of either nothing or everything. When he is not working on Zyvex stuff, John annoys the rest of the family with his continued attempts to play the saxophone.

The Randalls in Paradise

Those of you who know her, know that Patrice really hates flying. But John had many AA miles to use and talked her into a Chritmas vacation in the Island state of Hawaii. If Maui is not paradise, we don't know what could be. Ian, Ashley, and John went SCUBA diving. We bought cool island things, ate like royalty, and John actually relaxed.

Pet Report:
Max, our 12 year old puppy, is still alive and well. He has slowed down a bit. The Vet won't let him run around the park with John anymore, but he still likes to chase Ian around the dining room table and carry out his primary function: protecting the leader of the pack, Patrice.

The Relativity Report:
Stepchinskis:
Anita, Patrice's mom, we are sad to report has been in a nursing home this past year. Eddie, Patrice's dad is still living at home, but had a hernia operation this year. Brother Nigel, wife Rhonda, and kids Caitlin(16) and Kyle(13) are all doing well in Houston, as are brother Patrick, wife Erica, and kids Leanne(14), and Alan(11).
Randalls: Bill and Vee, John's parents are still alive and well, though Bill has been hit by Al's Hammer. He generally seems to enjoy his surroundings, but is not always sure where he is. Before John forgets them, he is collecting Bill Randallisms.. Vee is still sharp and won yet another award from the DAR. Brother Mike is living with Bill and Vee (Bill refers to him as the guy who lives upstairs). Mike's daughter Kalli(19) is starting her collegiate career and Cody(16) is still in high school. Sister Cindy had a back operation but has made a rapid recovery, Skip(Cindy's Hubby)'s bike shop was an artistic success but is no longer, Cindy's daughters are in the final (Shelly will soon graduate from Baylor), and early (Kelsie has just started classes) stages of their collegiate careers.

Mele kaliki maka!
